Dramaten shares the hosting of the European Digital Theater Festival
On January 20, a fourteen-day European digital festival begins, where several English-subtitled theater performances are published daily. The entire festival program will be released on January 5 and will then be available on Dramaten’s website. – In a world with almost completely closed borders and with an art form that bleeds from not being able to meet its audience, it feels extremely important to still maintain collaborations with colleagues in the international arena, says Mattias Andersson, theater director and artistic director of Dramaten.
The festival is a collaboration between Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Dramaten and the European theater network mitos21. It is not only a continuation of Dramaten’s international theater project from this spring, Stories from Europe, but also Thalia Theatre’s twelfth annual cultural festival Lessingtage.
The official name of the joint venture is Lessingtage 2021 Digital: Stories from Europe. A platform of the mitos21 theater network.
– Filmed theater is only a substitute for the art form, but through this festival we still want to help spread each other’s work and hope to be able to offer the audience a wide range of performances from some of Europe’s foremost theater houses.
About twenty European theater performances are available to an international audience on Dramaten’s and Thalia Theaters’ websites between 20 January and 3 February.
Participating theaters: Thalia Theater / Hamburg, Théâtre de l’Odéon / Paris, Toneelhuis / Antwerpen, Berliner Ensemble / Berlin, Teatro Stabile di Torino / Turin, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus / Düsseldorf, The State Theater of Nations / Moskva, Deutsches Theater / Berlin, Teatre Lliure / Barcelona, Toneelgroep / Amsterdam and Katona József Theater / Budapest.
