Inauguration of Östermalms Saluhall
Now it is finally time to inaugurate Östermalm’s Saluhall, one of Sweden’s most beautiful brick buildings from the late 19th century. Östermalms Saluhall is a beautiful and well preserved historical document of urban residents interest in good food and for 130 years it´s been a veritable oasis for gourmets and gastronomes.
Through careful renovation and development, the market hall has regained its former glory and at the same time developed into a modern and sustainable trading venue.
After a few years of renovation the re-opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 5th. On the opening day , the Market Hall is open to the public until 3 pm. Beginning in Friday March 6, regular opening hours in the stores apply until 7 pm on weekdays and until 5 pm on Saturdays.
The world's 7th best food hall
Östermalms Saluhall has been named “The world’s 7th best food hall”.
The acknowledgement was given to Östermalms Saluhall by the prestigious and award-winning magazine Bon Appétit in 2007. Among others, on the top ten list, were the food market halls in Tokyo and Budapest.
Östermalms Saluhall receiving international attention is nothing new in itself. This meeting and trading place is found in most guidebooks of Stockholm and has attracted visitors for almost 130 years. The world-famous chef Jamie Oliver recently appointing Östermalms Saluhall to one of his favorite places in Stockholm, is also something that can be seen as “a feather in the cap” and a good sign that the environment and food culture is highly valued abroad.
