You have been in the fashion industry for many years – what are the biggest differences in the industry today compared to 10 years ago?
The biggest differences between now and ten years ago in the fashion industry are that the calendars are much shorter, and therefore, everything must be faster.
Digital presence across the industry is also much more prevalent. In addition, and given the current global situation, there are no longer fabric/trade shows, no live fashion shows with front row seats, no traveling to mills or garment manufacturer, and a severe decrease in personal interactions between suppliers and buyers.
Everything has become digital. Business has become less personable i.e., losing the human connection.
What is sustainable fashion for you?
While efforts are being made for the improvement garment manufacturing, we have actually not yet fulfilled and achieved a true definition of sustainable fashion because sustainable fashion means: closed-loop water usage and water consumption reduction, no air-freight shipping, closed-loop cyclical raw resource usage etc. It means looking at centuries-worth of processes being changed for the betterment and preservation of our planet.
One of your assignments in your new business is to represent Wolfgang Scout – tell us a bit about this brand and why you decided to work with them?
Wolfgang Scout is a culmination of experiences in the fashion industry and wanting to do what they love better. The founders love wool and wanted to create beautiful yarns and handknitted products that celebrate the quality of Australian superfine merino.
This, together with a sustainable focus and paired with a strong design aesthetic through form and color, is the foundation of Wolfgang Scout. The collections use only fibers that are responsibly produced in their knitted and woven products. They believe in creating something that has a timeless quality and longevity in design, material, and function.
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a launch and press event for the latest collection from Wolfgang Scout on February 4th, 2021 at the Nordic Innovation House, PMQ from 14 – 20 o’clock. We look forward to welcoming everyone coming to see the collection.
