Winners of Residence “Stora Formpris 2020”

Residence Stora Formpris is a tribute to the best design and interior design of the year and has been awarded since 2005. This year the prize is awarded in nine categories and highlights the year’s leading creators, architects and designers.

The prize is awarded in the following categories: Designer of the Year, Producer of the Year, Architect of the Year and Interior Designer of the Year, Environmental Profile of the Year, Lighting of the Year, Furniture of the Year, Arts and Crafts of the Year and Accessory of the Year.

– 2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone and of course also for the design industry. That is why it is extra important to pay attention to designers, architects, interior designers and manufacturers who invest in sustainability and make our lives more beautiful. The price can mean a lot when it has been uphill for many months with trade fairs being canceled and production stopped and a strained retail trade, says Imke Janoschek, edition manager at Residence.

The Residence Stora Formpris jury includes: Pella Hedeby, interior designer, stylist and blogger, Anders Bergmark, design writer, Sandra Nolgren, business manager Swedish illustrator and former head of communications Arkdes, Cecilia Tivar, stylist, Imke Janoschek, edition manager Residence.

Winner of Residence Stora Formpris 2020

Designer of the year 2020, Monica Förster

Motivation: For strong efforts during an unusual year, both in the international arena and at home in Stockholm. With the lines in the chair for Artifort and the table for Zanotta, design poetry is created.

Architect of the Year 2020, Johnny Andersson, Earth Architects

Motivation: Johnny Andersson digs where he stands. With projects such as Osprey Farm & Studio and Jordens Arkitekter’s new studio in Frihamnen, he puts architecture in a larger context.

Lighting of the year 2020, Putki by Matti Klenell for Iittala

Motivation: Once again, Matti Klenell shows a fantastic ear for glass as a material. They are as made for each other, the light and the glass in his lamp Putki for Iittala.

Furniture of the Year 2020, The Puffy Armchair by Faye Toogood for Home

Motivation: Bauhaus steel meets a seventies luxury soft cushion in an armchair that will land congenially in 2020 – a piece of furniture that is both an airbag and a hug when we needed it most.

Crafts of the year 2020, Daniel Wester

Motivation: Daniel Wester captures organic forms in the middle of the movement. There is a language of his own in his work that is original and imaginative.

Environmental profile of the year 2020, Marie Louise Hellgren

Motivation: The spirit of the times has finally caught up with up-cycling inspiration Marie-Louise Hellgren, who tirelessly challenges producers to think more sustainably and long-term.

Producer of the year 2020, Asplund

Motivation: For thirty years at the forefront of Scandinavian design, Asplund has constantly defended Swedish production. The anniversary year was celebrated with a furniture exhibition and news with classic potential.

Interior designer of the year, Marie Olsson Nylander

Motivation: A storm from Skåne shakes life in a dilapidated palace in Sicily and becomes popular. The interior designer Marie Olsson Nylander is passionate about aesthetics every day. A beauty’s flag bearer at prime time.

This year's accessory, Cappelen Dimyr

Motivation: Newcomer Cappelen Dimyr shows that a rug can be as hot as any design object. A luxurious, toned-down Scandinavian interpretation of bohemian and ethnic influences is exactly what we want right now.
